The Leadership Revolt # 6 | Your Concepts of a Plan Have Value

The Leadership Revolt #6

Take action on your concepts of a plan

Hello Reader,

Do you know the richest place on earth?

The graveyard.

It's said to be where you find all the hopes and dreams that were never fulfilled.

With the recent passing of several icons, I've been thinking a lot more about leaving a legacy. Most of us don't want to think about the inevitable, let alone plan or prepare for it. Me, I'm most of us. We also live as though we have infinite time. We put off our hopes and dreams. Save them for another day or season, assuming there is more time. And sometimes there isn't.

That's why our graveyards are rich.

We defer our dream too long and they expire.

But it doesn't have to be that way. You could make a different choice.

You could take action.

Now, if you are a multi-passionate leader like me, you may have more ideas and aspirations than you could implement if you were a cat with nine lives.

But what if you picked one or two—preferably the ones that keep coming back to you, that scare you a bit—and committed to taking action?

One of the best tips I've gotten from professional coaching is to pick an idea and pursue it for six months. Why? Because

  1. Being a beginner is challenging, and if you check your progress too soon, you might get dissuaded and quit before it gets good.
  2. Six months is just enough time to see if your idea is catching fire for you and others.

Will you pick and idea and commit?

rest resistance over image of feet propped up in relaxation

Hello Reader, We often talk about "Rest as Resistance." As I grow older and wiser in my journey towards social change, I am beginning to understand this in my bones. In our line of work—where the stakes are high, and the fight for justice is constant—rest isn't a luxury. It is integral to the work itself. But I know from experience that it is almost impossible to truly rest when you are quietly questioning your structural integrity of your vision. It’s hard to disconnect when your brain is...
