The Leadership Revolt #18 | Lead Boldly—Even in the Chaos

The Leadership Revolt

Chaos requires intentionality.

Hello Reader,

Whew! What a year this week has been.

If you are dizzy from all that is happening in the world, you are not alone. There are a lot of really not great things happening all at once that are 1000% affecting the way we live, work, and play. As a leader who coaches and consults with leaders driving change, I had to spend quite some time box breathing, disconnecting, and finding joy this week.

This week's newsletter is centered around helping you lead through chaos. Whether you are a leader by title or not, I hope this newsletter gives you some strategies to navigate the chaos surrounding you.

Grounding Thought

Leadership isn’t easy when the world feels chaotic. The news is overwhelming, the challenges are real, and it’s hard to know what step to take next. Chaos theory is the science of surprises. It provides us with an opportunity to adjust our mindset to adapt to an ever-changing and often predictable world.

Chaos is everywhere—but so is opportunity.

One of the most powerful frameworks, I have come across to lead through uncertainty and chaos is VUCA/VUCA Prime. VUCA highlights the unpredictable challenges leaders face, requiring them to navigate volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity. VUCA Prime provides a counterbalance, empowering leaders to respond with vision, understanding, clarity, and agility to inspire confidence and drive meaningful action in uncertain times.

On the Podcast

In this week’s episode of The Leadership Revolt, I dive into the principles of chaos theory and share five actionable strategies to help you lead with courage, clarity, and intention in turbulent times.

This episode is packed with insights on:

  • Staying grounded in your values.
  • Taking small, intentional steps that create lasting impact.
  • Building coalitions and finding strength in community.
  • Communicating with clarity and compassion, even in uncertainty.
  • Prioritizing rest and joy to sustain your leadership.

If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed or unsure of how to move forward, this episode is your guide to navigating the storm and turning disruption into transformation.

rest resistance over image of feet propped up in relaxation

Hello Reader, We often talk about "Rest as Resistance." As I grow older and wiser in my journey towards social change, I am beginning to understand this in my bones. In our line of work—where the stakes are high, and the fight for justice is constant—rest isn't a luxury. It is integral to the work itself. But I know from experience that it is almost impossible to truly rest when you are quietly questioning your structural integrity of your vision. It’s hard to disconnect when your brain is...
